Working with Trey Brice on previous home inspection was great. He and team came in on a hot day reviewed the roof. Took their time go over what was found and next steps. Trey and his team would be great to have inspector or install new roof for home. They will make sure job is done right.

I had a large tree in my front yard to fall on my house during one of the previous bad thunderstorms we had and I needed the tree taken care of immediately. I was referred to Mr. Trey Brice and after we spoke briefly by phone he was promptly on top of the situation. I provided him with my insurance information and he pretty much took it from there and throughout the process he kept me informed. I was able to get my entire roof fixed plus my gutters. By the time they finished my house looked like a New home. When I tell you I appreciated the professionalism, respect and genuine care that I received from Mr. Brice and his team. I recommend them above any where else hands down!

Absolutely incredible service! The technician arrived right on time for an estimate regarding a gutter drainage issue. Within 10 minutes, he had climbed onto the roof, pinpointed the blockage, cleared the debris, and tested it with a hose to ensure water was flowing properly. Best of all, he fixed it on the spot free of charge as a courtesy. Honest, prompt, and professional—I highly recommend this company to anyone with roofing or gutter issues!

What tropical storms do to a Raleigh, NC roof

Raleigh roofs deal with something the Charlotte ones mostly don’t. Sitting further east, this area catches more of what’s left of tropical systems moving up from the coast, and those bring a different kind of test than an afternoon thunderstorm does: wind that holds steady for hours rather than gusting, and rain driven sideways into the parts of a roof that were only ever designed to shed water falling straight down.

That’s why the details matter more here than the shingle does. Ridge caps, rake edges, the starter course, and the flashing where a roof meets a wall are what wind-driven rain finds. A roof can be in good condition across the field and still let water in at a detail during a storm that lasts long enough.

Hurricane Fran in 1996 is still the storm a lot of longtime Raleigh homeowners measure the others by. It came far enough inland to bring down trees all over the city, and in a place nicknamed the City of Oaks, falling limbs are as much of a roof risk as the wind itself. The mature oaks and pines in neighborhoods like Five Points, Hayes Barton and Oakwood are a big part of why people live there, and they are also what lands on a roof when a storm stalls overhead.

What we look for after one of these storms is different from a hail check: tabs lifted along the rakes, ridge caps that have let go, flashing pulled away at a wall or chimney, and water staining in the attic long before anything shows on a ceiling. Those are the places a slow, steady storm finds first.

Storm Damage and Insurance Claims

Tropical remnants aren’t the only thing that comes through. Spring storms bring hail across Wake County too, and hail bruising rarely shows from the yard. Either way the damage tends to be spread unevenly, so we check every slope rather than just the one facing the street.

After a storm we photograph what we find slope by slope, and if there’s a claim worth making, we work through the scope with your insurance carrier. If there isn’t, we say so. We work only in the Carolinas, and we’d rather keep your trust than chase a claim.

Repairs, Replacements and Clear Estimates

Plenty of Raleigh roofs need a repair rather than a replacement: a ridge that let go in a storm, flashing at a chimney, a section a limb came down on. Repairs don’t have to involve an insurance claim, and we’re glad to quote them on their own.

When a full replacement is the right call, we price it in Xactimate, the same estimating system most insurance carriers use, so the numbers are easy to follow whether or not a claim is involved. We measure with EagleView satellite imagery, which on a cut-up roofline is the difference between a real number and an educated guess. Estimates are free, and we’re always willing to talk them through with you.

Gutters Under the Canopy

Under Raleigh’s tree canopy, gutters work hard. Oak leaves in the fall and pine straw most of the year fill them faster than most people expect, and a clogged gutter in a long, steady rain sends water back under the roof edge and into the fascia. We install 5-inch or 6-inch K-style gutters in colors to suit the house.

Whether guards are worth it depends on what’s overhead. A guard that handles oak leaves can clog with pine straw, so we look at the trees on your lot before we recommend one.

Older Homes and Historic Districts

Raleigh has a large stock of older houses, from the Victorian homes of Oakwood to the 1920s neighborhoods around Five Points. Their roofs often have steep pitches, dormers, and more than one layer of shingles already on them, and each of those changes the job.

If your house sits in one of the city’s historic overlay districts, such as Oakwood or Boylan Heights, exterior changes need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Raleigh Historic Development Commission, and a change of roofing material or color can fall under that. We check what applies before anything is ordered, so the approval doesn’t hold up the work.

Raleigh, NC roofing questions

Inside city limits, yes. The City of Raleigh lists roofing among the alterations and repairs that need a residential permit, though no plans are required. Outside the city, permitting generally goes through Wake County instead. We pull the permit as part of the job either way.

Yes, but plan for an extra step. Oakwood is a historic overlay district, so exterior changes go through the Raleigh Historic Development Commission’s Certificate of Appropriateness process. Replacing like with like is usually the simplest path; a change of material or color is where approval matters most. We’ll help you find out what your project needs before the work is scheduled.

It’s worth it. Wind-driven rain and lifted edges often don’t show inside until the next storm, and by then the decking or attic may have been wet for weeks. An inspection is free, doesn’t take long, and if the roof came through fine, we’ll tell you that.
