Roof replacement without the mess

Roof Replacement Cleanup and Property Protection

A roof replacement shouldn’t leave you with damaged plants, debris in the yard or nails in the driveway. Horizon Roofing and Restoration protects your property before work starts, controls debris during tear-off, and finishes with a magnetic nail sweep and a final walk of the property.

Protect it. Install it right. Clean it completely. Inspect it before leaving.
A roofing project isn’t complete when the last shingle is installed. It’s complete when the roof is properly installed, the property is thoroughly cleaned, and you can safely enjoy your home without debris, nails or unnecessary damage.

Our Process, Step by Step

1Before we start
We confirm the property, the approved scope and the shingle product and color, then walk the property and document its existing condition. We note HVAC equipment, windows, siding, gutters, landscaping, pools, decks and anything else that needs protection, confirm where the dumpster or trailer and materials will go, and photograph the property before work begins. No tear-off begins until protection is in place.
2Protecting your home and landscaping
We tarp or cover shrubs, flowers, plants and decks, and use tarps or barriers to steer falling debris away from the house and landscaping. Heavy materials never go directly on plants or shrubs. We also protect siding, windows, doors, HVAC units, exterior fixtures, pools, vehicles, play areas and neighboring property. If patio furniture, grills or decorations are in the way, we may ask you to move them.
3Tear-off and debris control
We tear off in controlled sections so loose debris doesn’t pile up, and send it toward a collection area or straight into the dumpster or trailer. Material is never thrown blindly from the roof, and ground cleanup continues throughout the job.
4Decking check and installation
Once the old roof is off, we inspect the decking for rot, holes, delamination, soft spots and other damage. We photograph damaged decking and flag it before it is covered, and replace approved sections so the deck is secure. The new roof is installed to the approved scope and the manufacturer’s instructions, with the manufacturer’s nail pattern, and any misplaced nails are corrected.
5Cleanup all along
We pick up loose shingles, felt, plastic, wrappers, nails and debris throughout the job, keep the driveway and main walkways reasonably clear, clear debris from landscaping, foundation areas and gutters, and don’t let trash blow onto neighboring property.
6The magnetic nail sweep
Every Horizon roof replacement includes a magnetic nail sweep. We sweep the full perimeter, driveway, sidewalks, walkways, garage entrances, the dumpster or trailer area and accessible landscaping edges, with extra attention where tear-off debris landed. Before we leave, we sweep the high-traffic areas a second time. We never intentionally leave loose roofing nails on the roof, driveway, yard, gutters or landscaping.
7Gutters and grounds
We remove roofing debris from gutters and check the downspout openings. Tarps come off carefully so collected nails and debris don’t end up in your landscaping. We check flower beds, shrubs, decks, porches, driveways, sidewalks and neighboring property, then remove unused materials and all crew trash.
8Final inspection and walkthrough
We confirm the shingles and ridge caps are complete and aligned, the flashings, pipe boots, penetrations and ventilation are complete, and no exposed or improperly driven nails, loose materials or tools remain. Then we walk the whole property, finish the final sweep, confirm every tarp and protective material is gone and the dumpster or trailer area is clean, and photograph the finished roof and the cleaned property. Any property damage is reported to our project manager immediately.

Property Protection Questions, Answered

Will you protect my landscaping during a roof replacement?
Yes. Before tear-off, we tarp or cover shrubs, flowers, plants and decks, use tarps or barriers to steer falling debris away from the house, and keep heavy materials off plants and shrubs. No tear-off begins until protection is in place.
How do you make sure no nails are left in my yard or driveway?
Every Horizon roof replacement includes a magnetic nail sweep. We sweep the perimeter, driveway, sidewalks, walkways, garage entrances, the dumpster or trailer area and accessible landscaping edges, then sweep the high-traffic areas again before we leave.
Where does the old roofing go?
Debris goes toward a designated collection area or straight into a dumpster or trailer. We also remove unused materials and all crew trash before we leave.
Do I need to move anything before the crew arrives?
We protect HVAC units, siding, windows, pools, vehicles and play areas, and we may ask you to move patio furniture, grills, decorations or other movable items that are in the work area.
Will you take photos of my property?
Yes. We photograph the property before work begins, any damaged decking we find, and the finished roof and cleaned property.
What if something on my property is damaged?
Our crews are required to report any property damage to our project manager immediately.
